Self-build and custom housebuilding register

We are now operating a two-part register. For both Part 1, and Part 2, you must be over 18 years old and a British, EEA or Swiss national.

Part 1 is for people with a local connection who can afford to buy a plot of land for self-build. Part 2 is for everyone else who meets the above age and nationality requirements.

What is a local connection?

  • It means living and/or working here for at least two years, or
  • Being employed by the armed forces, or having left the service less than two years ago, and
  • having enough money to buy a serviced plot of land.

Associations

An Association can enter Part 1 of the Register provided every member meets all the local eligibility conditions.

Apply for the Waltham Forest self-build register

You must apply through The Local Self Build Register. We’ll confirm your eligibility for Part 1 or Part 2 of the register within 28 days of receiving all information requested.

If you’re on the register already and want to update or remove your details, please email us as soon as possible.

The register is protected by the Data Protection Act and will not be made public. We may publish headline data, for example on overall local demand for self-build in the Local Plan Monitoring Report.
