The benefit cap

If you’re of working age, there is a limit to the amount of certain benefits you can get.

Housing Benefit is included in the benefit cap. Council Tax Support, Discretionary Housing Payments and Housing Benefit for supported accommodation are not included.

For people living within Greater London, the cap is:

  • £486.98 per week (£25,323 a year) for a couple, whether your children live with you or not
  • £486.98 per week (£25,323 a year) if you’re single and your children live with you
  • £326.29 per week (£16,966 a year) if you’re single and you don't have children, or your children don't live with you

Visit GOV.UK for more about the benefit cap and use their benefit cap calculator to see how it affects you.
