Profiling is when personal data that is processed in an automated way. This data is used to evaluate a person’s preferences, interests, etc and to analyse or predict behaviour or needs.

Automated decision-making is where a software tool is used to automatically make decisions using data without human input.  An example is credit check searches to detect and to reduce fraud.

In instances where the Council uses such a tool, the respective Privacy Notice of the Council will advise you of this. The Council does not carry out automated decision-making without human intervention.

For further information on data processing by Council departments, please see the departmental privacy notices.
