UTCs are set up by universities and businesses and admit pupils in Year 10. As well as a regular GCSE curriculum, they specialise in one or two technical subjects.

Employers are involved in Studio Schools too. These help young people develop employment skills, through personal coaching and work experience. They also offer a typical secondary curriculum.
