Care homes

There are two types of care homes: residential homes and nursing care homes.

There are two types of care homes:

Residential homes provide accommodation with 24 hour support for personal care, such as dressing, eating meals or taking a bath. We run three residential care homes and also commission several others which are independently or privately run.

Nursing care homes provide the same services as residential homes. In addition, they employ a registered nurse who's available at all times and supervised by a doctor or consultant. There are three nursing care homes in our borough.

Finding a care home

Search the NHS website for care homes or nursing care homes in Waltham Forest and elsewhere in the UK.

Choosing a care home

Once you’ve found a care home you like, you can simply make your own arrangements. This includes when you want to attend a viewing and what facilities you’ll pay for.

Both residential and nursing care homes are registered and inspected regularly by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). All inspection reports are published on the CQC website. You can also contact them on 03000 61 61 61.

You may want to take independent advice too. If so, both Age UK and healthwatch  provide good information about choosing a care home.

Our staff can also advise and can be contacted on 020 8489 3000.

Paying for care

Depending on your circumstances, you may need to pay for some or all of your care.
