Earlier this year, following the announcement from the leaseholder that they were looking to close down the site, it was agreed that Waltham Forest Council would take responsibility for CRATE St James and the support of the 30 local businesses that trade from the location.

We are working in partnership with these valued businesses including The Untraditional Pub, Afrobbean Kitchen and No Logo Hair, to promote the space and increase footfall, building on their successes whilst also reaching new audiences.

Cllr Ahsan Khan, Deputy Leader and Lead Member of Housing and Regeneration shared: ‘We know how cherished the area of St James is, and we are keen to make sure CRATE St James is included in our future neighbourhood improvements for the area and it’s residents. With 30 local businesses on site, we are making sure we promote to not only our residents, but wider to visitors of Waltham Forest too. The programme of events is varied and I’d welcome you to take a look at what’s on, via the Instagram page. There are weekly fitness events in the upstairs terrace area, as well as parent and children meet ups, drag nights, quizzes and work space available to hire too.

This Saturday, you can kick off the bank holiday weekend by heading down to the CRATE Market and The Untraditional Pub’s Beer Fest – free entry with lots to enjoy.

Please do visit the venue this Summer, explore some new businesses and grab some food and drink on the sun soaked terrace (when it finally stops raining!)’
