Libraries 2 You: Book Delivery Service

Jill, a long-time resident of Leytonstone, has been a loyal library user for as long as she can remember. However, when moving around became tough for her, she signed up to our book delivery scheme through one of our libraries.

The book delivery service is available for residents of Waltham Forest who cannot leave their homes to visit the library. We deliver books, audiobooks, DVDs and large print books straight to your door every four weeks and we'll collect the old items at the same time. We can deliver to Waltham Forest care homes and nursing homes too.

For Jill and her husband Danny, the service has been a blessing, especially since the pandemic. Being an enthusiastic reader, Jill loves the wide range of books available, and the chance to discover new reads suggested by the libraries team.

Our library staff go above and beyond, helping to tailor recommendations and services to suit individual preferences and making sure everyone feels welcome regardless of their reasons for not being able to visit the library in person. Another highlight of the service for Jill is the volunteers. Tony, one of our dedicated volunteers, is not just a delivery person, he’s someone Jill and her husband Danny enjoy chatting with (and having over for tea).

She isn’t the only one benefiting from this service. Khalid, another library user, shares Jill’s thoughts, emphasising how crucial these volunteers are for people like him who struggle to move around easily. He said, “It’s a great service, especially because I get on well with the volunteers and the library team make an effort to accommodate to my tastes. It’s hard for me to get around on my wheelchair, so this service is a godsend for someone like me!”

As Jill puts it, “It’s not just about books, it's about connecting with a community, staying engaged, and keeping the mind active and boredom at bay.”
