This March, our first Library of Things will arrive in Waltham Forest. Leytonstone Library will host the borrowing offer, meaning that you can access the items you might need to maintain your homes affordably.
Cllr Clyde Loakes, Deputy Leader and Lead Member for Climate and Air Quality shared: ‘This is a great development for Waltham Forest and one I am so excited to use myself. Did you know, the average drill is only used three times a year?
We want our residents to be able to borrow instead of buy, saving them money and also creating a more sustainable economy too. The Library of Things has so many benefits, not only environmental, but also financial savings, strengthening our community and saving space too.
We’ll have items such as drills, sound systems, sewing machines, garden tools and so much more.’
Library of Things works as everything as else does at the library – you register, reserve online, borrow your item and then return – simple as that.
Borrowing is better than buying for many reasons, including:
- It’s more affordable and cuts down on clutter
- You can meet your neighbours, get involved in your community, or even learn a new skill that could change your outlook on life.
- Sharing the Things you won't use often is a simple action all of us can take to live more sustainably so its kinder to your planet.
The Library of Things in Leytonstone will open on Saturday 2 March, but we need you to register your interest now. Instead of cluttering up your cupboards with stuff you don’t need - let's share things with each other instead.
Register your interest today, so you can borrow as soon as it opens!
