Leytonstone is the borough’s second largest town centre and home to a vibrant and diverse community surrounded by green spaces on the edge of Epping Forest. It has excellent transport links, with the central line and an overground line running through the heart of the town centre.

The area is packed with independent shops, makers, and artists as well as popular local pubs, cafes, and restaurants. The Leytonstone Town Team, a local group of residents and businesses, works with the Council’s Regeneration Team to help guide improvements to the area and provide support for local businesses.

A draft Leytonstone Town Centre Framework was produced by the Council in 2021 to help realise and guide investment and improvements in Leytonstone over the next 15 years. The framework is being refined to incorporate local aspirations following public consultation.

A second round of public engagement took place in spring 2023 to help further shape the framework.

Tackling the Climate Emergency in Leytonstone

The Leytonstone Future Neighbourhood 2030 Strategy sets out a vision for a sustainable future for Leytonstone town centre, and identifies projects that would seek funding, business plans and investment to achieve this vision.

It aims to make Leytonstone town centre the template for tackling the Climate Emergency while driving green economic growth and investment in community infrastructure.

Three ambitious interventions in the town centre have been proposed:

1. Leytonstone Green Gateway

2. Leytonstone Green Enterprise Zone

3. Leytonstone Retrofit Accelerator

These projects will form part of the Leytonstone Framework, a live document that will help transform Leytonstone town centre into an exemplary green town centre at the heart of a 15-minute neighbourhood for local communities.
