Wheelie Bins

Your black bin for general waste and green bin for recycling are both collected weekly.

Your brown bin for food and garden waste is collected fortnightly.

If you have a small brown outdoor food waste bin then this is collected weekly as well.

On collection day, bins are scheduled to be emptied between 5am and 10pm.

If your property has no space to store wheelie bins at the front of your property then your property is on a sack collection service and these refuse and green recycling sacks will be collected on the same days as the bins are collected on your road. These sacks must be presented on the outside on the public highway.

Leave your bins:

  • at the front boundary of your property
  • bins need to be presented for collection by 5am on the bin collection day

We will not empty your bin if it:

  • isn't presented at the front boundary of your property
  • contains waste that should be in a different bin or waste that would damage the collection vehicle
  • is too heavy to be lifted safely by the collection vehicle

The bin will be placed back to within the boundary of your property following the collection.

Communal Bins

All black, green and grey communal bins are scheduled to be collected weekly from the agreed collection point.

On collection day, bins are scheduled to be emptied between 5am and 10pm.

Refuse and Recycling in Sacks

If you live in a flat above a shop, or other property with no frontage or other area to store bins, where on selected roads in the borough you must place your refuse sacks and green recycling sacks outside on the public highway in the mornings between 6am and 9am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Your waste and green recycling sacks will be collected by 11am on either Monday, Wednesday or Friday.

Five roads also receive additional evening collections between 9pm and 11pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday where the waste and recycling sacks will be collected by 1am the following day. These roads are:

  • Church Lane
  • Lea Bridge Road
  • Hoe Street
  • High Road Leyton
  • High Road Leytonstone

Any household waste or recycling placed out onto the public highway outside of this time-banding is unauthorised and may result in a Fixed Penalty Notice being issued.
