Check your collection days

Find out when we collect your bins, and what you need to do.

Wheelie bins

Collection days vary depending on the type of bin and your postcode.

Your black bin for general waste and green bin for recycling are both collected weekly.

Your brown bin for food waste is collected fortnightly.

Leave your bin:

  • out by 6am on your collection day
  • where it can be seen easily
  • at the front of your property

We will not collect your bin if it:

  • isn't at the front of your property
  • contains waste that should be in a different bin
  • is too full and the lid won't close

Communal bins

All communal bins are collected weekly.

On collection day, your bins should be collected by 10pm.

We collect refuse and recycling sacks for people living in flats more often than wheeled or communal bins.

Always check which days you can leave your sacks out for collection.

Refuse and recycling in sacks

If you live in a flat above a shop you must place your refuse and recycling in sacks outside in the mornings between 6am and 9am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Your waste and recycling will be collected by 11am.

Some roads also receive additional evening collections between 9pm and 11pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday where the waste and recycling will be collected by 1am the following day.

  • Church Lane
  • Lea Bridge Road
  • Hoe Street
  • High Road Leytonstone
  • High Road Leyton

Additional rubbish

We will not collect bags, boxes or loose rubbish left by the side of communal bins or wheelie bins.

You'll have to wait for the next collection to make sure the bags fit in the bin. You can also take them to a local refuse and recycling centre:

  • Gateway Road Household Waste and Recycling Centre, Leyton
  • South Access Road Household Waste and Recycling Centre, Walthamstow
  • Kings Road Reuse and Recycling Centre, Chingford (recycling only, no general waste)

If you put your sacks on the street you may be fined.
