What is a safety certificate?

A safety certificate may be either:

  • A general safety certificate covering the use of the stand for viewing an activity, or several activities, as stated in the certificate. This will start on a specified date and is for a certain time period
  • A special safety certificate covering the use of the stand for viewing a certain activity or activities on a specified occasion or occasions

One certificate may cover more than one stand.

You get safety certificates from your local authority and must comply with any conditions attached to them.

See a summary of the regulations on the Office of Public Information website

To be eligible to apply for a certificate, you must be the person responsible for managing the ground.

Apply for a safety certificate in Waltham Forest

How the application process works

When you apply for a safety certificate for a regulated stand at a Waltham Forest sports ground, we must determine two things. Firstly, is the stand regulated, and secondly, whether the applicant is the right person to issue the certificate to.

Applicants must provide any requested information and plans to us within 28 days of the application data, unless we agree to a long period. If not, we will assume the application has been withdrawn.

We'll send a copy of your application to the chief police officer for Waltham Forest and the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority. They will be consulted on any conditions to include in the certificate. We may also consult other authorities.

Transfer of certificate

If you apply to transfer a certificate, we must determine if the person you wish to transfer the certificate to qualifies. The applicant can either be the current certificate holder or the person the certificate will be transferred to.

We'll send a copy of your application for a transfer to the chief police officer for Waltham Forest, and the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority. They'll be consulted on any proposed amendment, replacement, or transfer. We may consult other authorities.

Will tacit consent apply?

No, tacit consent will not apply for a new certificate. It is in the public interest that we process your application before it can be granted. If you don't hear from us within five working days, contact us online if you applied through the UK welcome business website.
