Services and contraception available from GPs and Pharmacies

GPs offer some types of contraception and advice as part of their routine services.

Check with your GP what is available.

Some GPs also offer additional sexual health services split into levels.

Level 1 includes:

• Chlamydia screening and treatment for young people (aged under 25)
• Testing for sexually transmitted infections (even if you have no symptoms)
• HIV and syphilis testing
• Hepatitis B testing and vaccination for patients at risk through sexual transmission
• Free condoms for young people through C Card (aged under 25)

GPs offering level 1 in the borough

Level 2 includes:

• Chlamydia treatment
• Long Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) fitting and removal (contraceptive coil or implant).  
• Please check the further comments column for further information about if contraceptive coils/implants are offered by the GP Practice.

A intrauterine device (IUD) or a intrauterine system (IUS) are both sometimes called “coils” and are small devices placed into your womb to prevent pregnancy.

• Francis Road Medical Centre Leyton: only provide Contraceptive Implant fitting and removal
• Larkshall Medical Centre Chingford: only provide IUD and IUS removals
• The Grove Medical Centre Walthamstow: only provide contraceptive implant fitting and removal
• The Old Church Surgery Chingford: only provide IUD/S (Coil) fitting and removal and no other services

GPs offering Level 2 services only

Pharmacies can offer free:

• Emergency Hormonal Contraception
• C-Card Condoms (if you are under the age of 25)
• Chlamydia Screening (if you are under the age of 25)
