There is usually no cost for the first collection (depending on the amount of waste).
Subsequent collections will be chargeable depending on the type and quantity of waste.
Clinical waste Click to get info
Clinical waste collections are to be divided into three waste types:
- Infectious waste
- Offensive waste
Only sharp boxes with yellow lids (no other colours) will be collected.Please go back to your GP or Doctor for any other lids.
Infectious waste can consist of:
- Human blood and blood products
- Human body fluids
- Microbiological waste
- Pathological waste
- Waste generated by dialysis
Offensive waste can consist of:
- Nappy waste and incontinence pads
- Sanitary hygiene waste
- Protective garments and outer dressings that are not contaminated with bodily fluids i.e. gloves, gowns and masks.
The council provides a collection service from domestic properties for clinical sharps and CAPD home dialysis waste. Yellow bags are provided for CAPD waste.
Referrals for CAPD waste will need to be in writing from the Primary Care Trust, Local/District nurse.
