It can get quite exhausting during the festive period and the months beyond, and sometimes all you need is a cosy night on the sofa with no one bothering you. We asked you what your favourite ‘night in’ businesses was, and you told us the following, from takeaway spots to chocolate or wine shops.

1. Arch Rivals, butchers, E7 

Arch Rivals butchers

This arch-based business Arch Rivals, butchers sits on the Waltham Forest side of Forest Gate, and – on top of being a buzzy food and drink destination – also has a regular butchers’ delivery, perfect for those nights in when planning a big meal. 

2. Bocca Bocca, E11

Pizza cooking in the oven

This hugely popular Leytonstone pizza Bocca Bocca restaurant opened during the first lockdown, offering a taste of the Amalfi coast to hungry Waltham Forest residents. Pizzas and other fare can be delivered to-door or collected from the restaurant. 

3. Indie Roots, E17

Indie Roots

This new Caribbean restaurant Indie Roots in Wood Street, Walthamstow is already making waves. One customer review says “I don’t even like speaking on the phone, but I actually had to call the restaurant to thank them for their delicious food.” You can order from these seafood and jerk specialists through online delivery services.

A small but perfectly formed pizza restaurant, Italian Bakery, based at the business collective at CRATE St James Street, The Italian Bakery receives rave reviews from customers across E17. Reviews focus on the authentic Sicilian crusts and delicious desserts available for delivery to your door.

Mint Fusion

An authentic South Asian experience and ‘dishes imploding with aroma’ are promised by Mint Fusion, based off Lea Bridge Road. Their award-winning chefs cook traditional dishes which are well-received across Waltham Forest. Order online for delivery.

This modern Indian restaurant, Mumbai Maska, in the heart of Chingford Mount serves its local area, whose reviews praise delicious authentic food, especially vegetarian options. 

7. Patpong Thai Restaurant, E4

Patpong Thai Restaurant

This North Chingford, Patpong, mainstay has sat on Station Road for thirty years, but has never lost its cult following. Authentic Thai ingredients make for delicious meals, prompting foodies to commute from all over London – but you can also order online for a great night in. 

8. Red Camel, E11

Locals told us they love this Afghan restaurant and takeaway spot, Red Camel, on Leytonstone High Road, widely praised for its fresh flavours and high-quality ingredients – as well as their friendly service. 

9. Saffron Kitchen, E10

This Lea Bridge Road destination, Saffron Kitchen, claim to take Indian restaurants into the 21st century – and their customers certainly agree, with loads of residents recommending Saffron Kitchen for a great night in. Depending on how energetic you’re feeling, you can order their ‘cook at home’ kits or stick with standard delivery. 

10. Saw Chocolate, E17

This artisan chocolate shop, Saw Chocolate, at the top of Hoe Street uses Belgian chocolate for its Walthamstow-made treats. One happy customer says: “The best chocolate in Walthamstow – possibly in the world! Amazing service, gorgeous packaging." Perfect (in moderation!) for a sofa night. 

11. To Be Consumed, E11

To Be Consumed

This family-run wine shop, To Be Consumed., in the arches under Leytonstone High Road overground station specialises in “low intervention wines, that means they're organic, biodynamic or naturally made”. Locals love their huge range of wines from across the world and personable service. The perfect place (and location) to grab a bottle on the way home, if that’s your thing – please drink sensibly. 

12. Yaz restaurant, E4

One of Highams Park’s best-loved takeaway spots, Yaz serves up relaxed Mediterranean vibes from its spot in the heart of the neighbourhood. Local reviewers especially love the lamb shish and Yaz’s brunches. Order online for what they call a ‘delicious escape to the Mediterranean.’ 

13. Zaxx, E10

Zaxx restaurant

‘Feed Your Seoul’ is the cheeky tagline of this upstart new Korean pop-up, Zaxx, in Francis Road, Leyton – and residents have followed suit. Since opening right before the first lockdown, the restaurant and its delicious bibimbaps have emerged as one of Leyton’s favourite food spots.
