Thank you for helping us to recycle right

We are thanking Waltham Forest residents for their continued efforts to recycle household waste, helping to increase our recycling rates and tackle the climate crisis in Waltham Forest.
In March, we saw a major jump in residents ordering food waste caddies and larger green recycling bins for their weekly collection. The Council delivered more than 600 new indoor and outdoor food waste caddies to residents in March, up by over 150 per cent compared to February. There was also a 217 per cent increase in deliveries of the larger 240 litre green bin for dry recycling from February to March (534, compared to 246). With black bins (residual waste) now being collected fortnightly, having larger green bins helps residents to recycle more and waste less.
Since we launched separate weekly food waste collections last autumn, we have collected over 2,600 tonnes from residents. That's 125 tonnes per week!
Cllr Clyde Loakes MBE, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Climate and Air Quality, said:
I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who is making a big effort to recycle more and recycle right.
We've made some significant service changes recently, including introducing weekly food waste collections and switching to fortnightly black bin collections, to give you the opportunity to recycle as much as possible.
We really appreciate these are big changes so it's encouraging to see residents taking action, including a huge surge in the number of food waste caddies and recycling bins being delivered. This shows that local people want to recycle more and make a difference.
And with an average of 125 tonnes of food waste now being collected each week, we are already seeing great achievements which will help us to increase recycling rates in Waltham Forest. If we work together, we can lead the way to becoming a net-zero borough.
