Tackling ATM distraction thefts in Chingford

We've been working with the police to improve safety and tackle known hotspots for crime and anti-social behaviour.

Following a spate of distraction thefts at ATMs in Chingford Mount, with 15 reported in the area from October to December, we stencilled privacy boxes outside cash points and gave crime reduction advice to bank staff who have since implemented our best practice recommendations such as turning ATMs off late at night when they are unsupervised.

Following our intervention, there have been 0 distraction thefts reported in the area from January to March 2023!
