Although it may not feel like it right now, spring is edging closer - and to celebrate, the council is offering extra support to those dedicating their valuable time to keeping our borough looking brilliant.
Our annual Spring Clean takes place from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 March and we are encouraging as many residents, local organisations, volunteer and community groups, schools and businesses as possible to organise a litter pick over that weekend.
A range of equipment, including litter pickers, refuse sacks, high vis vests, brooms and bag hoops, is available and can be provided by the council at no cost to groups signing up to hold an event.
If you would like to arrange an event, please let us know the time, day, location and number of volunteers and/or pupils taking part, and the council will help supply the equipment you need. The closing date to register your event is Friday 6 March.
Our Spring Clean Weekend is now in its fourteenth year, and in that time, thousands of residents, along with schools, faith groups and local businesses, have been involved in events the length and breadth of the borough.
Cllr Clyde Loakes MBE, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Climate and Air Quality, said: “I’m delighted to announce that our popular annual Spring Clean Weekend is back! Once again, we’ll be working together with local groups and dedicated residents to give our borough the once over and get it looking its brilliant best.
“It’s a huge demonstration of civic pride and we’ll be coming together as a community to litter pick, give our local spaces a spruce up, paint areas, plant flowers and shrubs, and give our neighbourhoods a bit of attention.
“As usual, the council is supporting everyone who wants to get involved by providing the equipment you need to run a litter-pick or community clean-up. You just need to register your event by Friday 16 March.
“At the heart of our Spring Clean Weekend is the partnership between the council and local people to work together to ensure that Waltham Forest is a wonderful place to live and work.
“We’ll always do everything we can to support residents to make positive changes in their neighbourhoods and I’d like to thank everyone who has volunteered in the past, or is thinking of getting involved this year, for their hard work and dedication.”
If you feel inspired in bringing the best out of your local community, you can get involved in the council’s Together we are Waltham Forest campaign.
It’s a celebration of the positive change happening every day in our borough, from residents and businesses to community groups, partners – all supported by the council. This includes how we are working together with local people to Help Nature Thrive in our borough.
