A message for the community from Cllr Khevyn Limbajee

Cllr Khevyn Limbajee, Cabinet Member for Community Safety, said: “I know residents will share my shock and concern after an incident yesterday in the Wood Street area in which a 14-year-old boy suffered stab wounds. We are awaiting an update on his condition, and we are all hoping that he is able to make a full recovery.

“Incidents such as these are very worrying. I know you will have questions about what we and the police are doing to provide reassurance and ensure that people are safe in Waltham Forest. An active police investigation is underway. We are supporting it any way we can, including by sharing CCTV footage and any intelligence we pick up. Police are searching for one suspect. If you have any information that may help, please contact them on 101 using the reference 5981/15MAY25. You can also make an anonymous report via Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555111.”

Sharing information following violent incidents

We are often asked about when we can share information from the police following violent incidents. Often, when we receive initial information about an incident, the situation is still developing. We will share straight away any confirmed details regarding immediate threats to public safety or about road closures. This is to keep people safe, to help emergency services as they work, and to prevent travel disruption as much as possible.

When it comes to more in-depth details of specific cases, we need to make sure any information we share is confirmed as accurate. We work closely with the police to confirm this intelligence and to ensure whatever we publish is up-to-date, accurate, and not likely to cause undue distress or alarm.
