National poetry day competition 2022

National Poetry Day is taking place on 6th October 2022. The theme for this year is The Environment.

As part of our National Borough of Storytelling events, we are inviting all

  • children and young people
  • from Reception to Sixth Form/College

To submit a written or typed poem of up to 150 words based on The Environment.

The winning entries will be displayed and used on various promotional material as part of storytelling events taking place across the borough.

We will select 3 winners from each competition category: Primary, Secondary, Sixth Form or College. Each winner will receive a £50 shop voucher!

How to take part

If your child/young person attends a primary school, secondary school, sixth form or college that is participating in this competition, their poetry work can be submitted via their school or college.

If your child or young person’s school or college is not participating in the competition and your child or young person wishes to submit their poetry, they can submit their entry via any of the local libraries across the borough.

Submissions should include:

  • competition category
  • name
  • age
  • school or college name
  • parent or carer contact details (telephone number and email address)

All entries must be submitted by Friday 21st October 2022.

The winners from each category will be contacted by Friday 11th November 2022
