Identifying local opportunities

Ahead of the Summit, Public Perspectives, an independent research organisation held a series of focus groups with local residents on behalf of the Council’s Employment team and almost 200 jobseekers responded to the council’s Employment Needs survey identifying key themes from upskilling, identifying local opportunities, information on growth sectors and where future jobs would be.

There were almost 110 participants who lent their support to the Jobs Coalition and discussed the importance of a diverse workforce, green jobs and the construction sector in the borough’s future jobs growth. Importance was placed on supporting young people and their mental health as well as enhancing their skills and sharing via intergenerational learning. Businesses spoke about how they would connect people to jobs and help the borough recover and respond to the impact of Covid 19.
