A new mural, commissioned by Waltham Forest Council through the Welcome Back fund, has been installed in Highams Park.

‘High Five! Highams Park’ is a mural, created by Louise Chappell and Becky Bolton, designed to celebrate the culture of Highams Park. The regeneration team at Waltham Forest Council partnered with Louise and Becky, local business groups and Michael who owns LFS UK and owns the wall, to create this vibrant new piece. He was keen to use the wall to capture what makes the neighbourhood special.

This mural, which is situated on The Avenue, embraces the history and culture of the local area, including the green spaces and nature in Highams Park. There are also references to the manufacturing of table tennis balls at the Halex factory dating back to the 1800s, plus the Regal Cinema and the train station and signal box. Louise and Becky, who form the creative partnership ‘Good Wives and Warriors’, painted the mural over a few days and had lots of interaction with members of the local community. They said, “It has honestly been the friendliest and most enjoyable mural we’ve ever done. The warm welcome and constant support from the local people has been so lovely and kind.

Special thanks to Waltham Forest Council for commissioning this mural through the regeneration team, Michael (of Highams Park business group) and all the local groups and business owners for their suggestions.

We hope you enjoy this mural which celebrates your awesome neighbourhood for years to come!”
