Cllr Grace Williams' community statement following hate crime incidents
Leader of Waltham Forest Council Grace Williams said: “Waltham Forest is proud to be an inclusive and diverse borough, with a strong history of residents standing together against any form of hate or racism. Residents should be confident that we will take any action we can against those who would seek to divide us.
“Our neighbourhood teams have removed the racist graffiti that appeared on several local mosques and a school, and are ready to act immediately to remove it if any more appears. If you see any, please report it using our online tool. We are in close contact with the police who are investigating these crimes and assisting the police as they work to identify and arrest those responsible.
“Anyone who lives in Waltham Forest knows that it is a place where people of all beliefs and backgrounds enjoy living, learning and working together in fellowship”
- Police are urging anyone with information about the incidents to contact them on 101.
- Residents can report graffiti directly to the neighbourhood team using our online reporting tool. Racist or offensive graffiti will be prioritised for removal as soon as possible.
- The police have an online tool to report any incidents of hate crime.
