Food waste truck with winner sat inside

The results of the food waste recycling truck naming competition are in. And the winner is 'The Very Hungry Caddy-Filler', suggested by Adelaide Homer.

Over 800 suggestions were put forward after we asked residents to name our new fleet of food waste recycling trucks.

This was whittled down to 13 names, which will be printed on the side of the trucks. Then, the top two were put to a public vote when Waltham Forest residents were asked to decide whether 'The Very Hungry Caddy-Filler' or 'So-Fish-Ticated' was their favourite name.

After collating the results, 'The Very Hungry Caddy-Filler' was crowned the winner.

Adelaide, aged 9, from Barclays Primary School, was delighted to have won the competition. She said, "So, I thought that we might search through my books about food waste and I saw the 'Very Hungry Caterpillar'. And I thought since it's a food waste truck, what if we replace Caterpillar with Caddy-Filler? So, we got 'The Very Hungry Caddy-Filler'!"

There will be 13 trucks in total, designed in five different styles: watermelon, banana, fish bones, carrot and pizza.

Two of these trucks have already hit the streets (read the full story by clicking here) with the remaining 11 set to join them soon.

They will be collecting your food waste in a separate collection from September 23 for residents in the south of the borough, October 14 for residents in north of the borough and before March 2025 for all communal properties.
