Births, deaths and marriages

Covid-19 update: In line with UK government advice, the Waltham Forest Register Office is currently not seeing any customers face to face. As advised by government, we have suspended all birth registrations, ceremonies, and any notices of intention to marry.

The government has advised

  • All government departments that they are not to request birth certificates for official reasons

  • The penalty for not registering a birth within 42 days has been temporarily suspended

  • Public ceremonies including weddings, civil partnership, citizenship are suspended until further notice

Deaths or stillbirths must now be registered by phone.

Residents who wish to register a stillbirth or death, will no longer be able to book an appointment online.

Effective immediately, please call 0208 496 3708 to register a death and a member of the team will assist you.

We require a medical professional to email us the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death (MCCD) in order to be able to issue a death certificate.

The Register Office will be offering limited services, residents can not register a birth, obtain a wedding or civil partnership licence or give notice to get married until further notice.

As per Government guidelines, all public ceremonies have had to be postponed until further notice.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

If this has affected you, a member of the register office we will contact you once the current regulations have been relaxed.
