What to expect if you care for a young person
If you are caring for a young person, you can support their welfare and progress by:
- helping them to talk about any worries and speak on their behalf when appropriate
- encouraging the young person to develop their talents and recognise their achievements
- keeping schools informed of changes, any issues and emerging problems
You should also provide a peaceful, comfortable place for a young person to study and offer learning opportunities outside your home.
You should expect the school to keep you regularly informed about their progress.
The school should also:
- have a clear plan for introducing and integrating a young person into their ethos and routines
- have systems and procedures in place to provide ongoing support
- collaborate on the personal education plan with you and the young person
We can also provide support if the young person you care for is starting school at the beginning of a school year or transferring to school in the middle of a school year.
