We may offer you a home visit or a virtual meeting with a member of our team. The purpose is to:
- discuss your home education approach
- answer any questions you may have
- provide advice and recommendations if needed
A written summary of the meeting will be provided for your records.
A home visit is not a legal requirement. You can choose to:
- meet at another venue
- provide written information about your home education
- include examples of your child's recent work
We enjoy meeting families and seeing the wide range of creative and stimulating approaches to home education. Our aim is to keep the process informal, supportive, and honest.
What we expect to see
However you choose to share information, we would expect to see:
- a serious commitment to your child’s education
- evidence of a clear educational approach
- examples of learning that show your child is receiving an efficient, full-time education suitable for their needs
If concerns are raised
If we feel your child is not receiving an appropriate education, we will:
- Discuss the concerns with you
- Offer advice and support
- Give you time to improve your provision
A follow-up meeting will take place to review the situation.
If there is still no improvement, BACME Service may require your child to be registered at a school. If you fail to do this, a School Attendance Order may be issued. This is very rare and only happens if there is clear evidence that a suitable education is not being provided, and advice has been ignored.
