Applying for in year admissions if you are moving to the UK

If you are moving to the UK, you must check that you have either a:

Applying if you are a UK crown servant or from a military family

If your child is from a family of service personnel, or crown returning from overseas, you must provide an official letter with your relocation date and intended address with your application.

We use this address to apply the school’s oversubscription criteria when processing your application. 

If you do not have an intended or fixed address, you can use a Unit or quartering address as your child’s home address.

If you are a service family and cannot prove a local connection to Waltham Forest then the local connection exemption applies.

Transfers using Fair Access Protocol (FAP)

Some parents have difficulty in finding a school place for their child. That is why all local authorities are required to have a Fair Access Protocol (FAP).

The Protocol is designed to: 

  • acknowledge the needs of vulnerable children not on a school roll and deal with them quickly and sympathetically
  • reduce the time children spend out of school
  • ensure all schools admit children with challenging needs on a fair and transparent basis
