University Technical Colleges (UTCs) / Studio Schools

Some schools and colleges accept pupils in year 10, such as: 

  • University Technical Colleges (UTCs): set up by universities and employers and offering a full GCSE curriculum as well as one or two technical subjects
  • Studio Schools: work with employers and offer practical skills, work experience, personal coaching and a regular secondary (GCSE) curriculum  

Monoux High School

Monoux High School accepts applications from students in Year 10 and 11 who are motivated and want to succeed in GCSEs or English as a Second Language (ESL) programmes.   

The school is mainly for young people who have newly arrived in the UK, but can take a small number of students who:  

  •  are home educated
  • have moved to the area recently
  • are looking to switch schools after Year 9 or 10
  • have missed education due to health issues
