The Environmental Information Regulations 2004 gives you the right to access a wide range of environmental information that we hold. 

What is environmental information?

Environmental information is:

  • information on the state of the elements including land, water, air, flora or fauna
  • information on activities that can have a negative impact on the environment: including energy, noise, contamination, radiation and other nuisances
  • information about measures designed to protect the environment like policies, legislation, plans, environmental agreements and cost benefit and economic analyses
  • information we hold relating to road, traffic, maintenance, land use planning, development control, buildings and estates

There are exceptions which prevent us disclosing certain types of information.

We have two standard environmental information reports that we offer regarding specific locations:

Basic search (charge: £200.00)

  • Ground investigation reports (if available on record)
  • Pollution incidents

Advanced search (charge: £405.00)

  • Historical land use maps  
  • Aquifer vulnerability 
  • Hydrogeology

  • Nitrogen dioxide data
  • Radon status

Other access and public registers

We make a lot of environmental information available in public registers and under other legislation. Examples include:

  • planning,
  • highways,
  • tree preservation and
  • food safety

You should access the information using these registers. Charges may apply. In such cases, we'll advise you how to access the information.
