What is the purpose of HIA?

Health Impact Assessments (HIAs) provide a systematic framework for assessing the potential impacts of development on the social and physical health of communities.

HIAs have been designed to look at the wider determinants of health, they don’t just take into account food and health environment but they also take into account things like Connectivity (to local employment sites, schools, Community Care, GP practise and acute trust).

HIA Guidance: Planning Toolkit

The HIA Guidance Planning Toolkit has been purposely devised to address the best-practice recommendations.
The Toolkit sets out HIA Process requirements in order to provide clarity.
