We all have a part to play in making Waltham Forest a safer, more connected place to live, visit and work. While the police, fire brigade, and council each have clear responsibilities - like investigating crime, responding to emergencies, and delivering vital services - our residents and communities also play a powerful role. Whether it’s reporting concerns, supporting neighbours, engaging with young people, or simply looking out for one another, these everyday actions help build a borough where everyone feels safer, more informed, and more supported.
Our system only works when we all work together – that’s why we’re asking residents to join us and our statutory partners in making a pledge. It could be to set up a neighbourhood watch group on your street, attend a local police ward panel, or speak out against hate crime and support those in your community who may be impacted.
Cllr Khevyn Limbajee, Cabinet Member for Community Safety said: "I pledge to keep pressure on the local police to make sure they focus on the issues that matter most to residents."
Cllr Grace Williams, Leader of the Council said: "I will ensure every Council service plays its part in creating safer neighbourhoods for all."
Cllr Kizzy Gardiner, Cabinet Member for Children's Services said: "I will work to make sure all our young people have access to safe spaces."
Superintendent Sarah Jackson from the Met Police said: "I will ensure every ward has a contactable officer to respond to local concerns."
