Our Housing Service is looking for skilled housing professionals to join our diverse and energetic teams.
Careers in the Housing sector
Whether you're an experienced housing professional or someone looking to start their career, our housing service offers a dynamic and rewarding environment where your skills and compassion can thrive. Our service spans a wide range of roles - from frontline housing options and support, to building surveying, tenancy management, and strategic development. It covers four different areas:
- Housing Management and Assets manages and maintains council homes across the borough, ensuring they are safe, modern, and energy-efficient. From repairs to rent services, we support residents in keeping their homes secure and comfortable.
- Housing Delivery is building thousands of new, affordable homes to meet local needs. Through council-led projects and partnerships, we’re creating sustainable communities with access to jobs, green spaces, and essential services.
- Housing Options and Support supports residents with various housing and related support needs. It is a busy service with approximately 3,000 households approaching for assistance each year.
- Housing Strategy and Systems shapes the future of housing in Waltham Forest. We use data and community input to plan safe, inclusive neighbourhoods and ensure housing supports health, growth, and wellbeing.

Help with your application
Applying for a job could mean lots of different things, including completing an application form or writing a supporting statement.
Use the button below to learn more about each of these, view templates and examples and how to avoid making common mistakes.
What we're looking for in your supporting statement
The purpose of a supporting statement is to showcase your relevant skills and experience against the job requirements. The statement is your opportunity to give examples of how you fit the requirements of the role. When writing a personal statement, it is important that you:
- Read the role profile so you are clear about the job requirements.
- Outline the skills and experience that you have that are relevant to the job and use examples to demonstrate this. Wherever possible, include specific facts and figures that demonstrate the tangible results of your work.
- Keep to the word limit. If your statement is too brief it may not provide the required depth of detail and evidence to be assessed fully.
- Proofread your statement before submitting to make sure it’s clear, easy to read and relevant.
Demonstrating evidence of behaviours
For some jobs, you will be asked to consider the specific behaviours that are important for the job (these will be detailed in the job advert). Behaviours can be assessed in several ways and at various stages of the recruitment process. At the application stage, you may be asked to give examples of how you have demonstrated a particular behaviour. This might be at work or somewhere else such as work experience, volunteering or in connection with a hobby.
Think about everything you have done and achieved which relates to the specific behaviours you are being asked for. The more recent your examples the better, but you don’t have to make all examples work-related. Think of examples that:
- Clearly demonstrate the behaviour and the details that underpin it.
- Will allow you to explain in some detail what you personally did.
- Had positive results, although less successful examples can be used if you can demonstrate the lessons learned and how errors would be avoided in future.
We recommend using the STAR model as a guide for responses to behaviour, experience and technical questions.

Working for the Waltham Forest Housing Service
At Waltham Forest, we’re proud to be shaping the future of housing in one of London’s most dynamic and diverse boroughs. Following our recent inspection by the Regulator of Social Housing, we’ve been awarded the second highest rating of a C2. The rating recognises that we are broadly meeting the consumer standards, with clear plans for future development. This result is a testament to the dedication of our staff, residents, and partners.
Here’s why now is the perfect time to join us:
- We’re transforming housing services: our new Housing Improvement Plan, launched post inspection, is already delivering real improvements in repairs, tenancy management, and resident engagement.
- We’re investing in people and systems: from new digital tools like our new online resident portal to enhanced training and support for staff, we’re building a modern, responsive housing service.
- We’re committed to safety and quality: we’ve achieved 100 per cent compliance in key safety areas like gas and fire risk assessments, and we’re working hard to bring more homes up to the Decent Homes Standard.
- We listen and act: our Resident Involvement Strategy ensures tenants have a real voice in shaping our services, and we’re using feedback to improve how we communicate, respond to complaints, and deliver support.
- We’re tackling the housing crisis head-on: with over 9,000 homes built in the last decade and more on the way, we’re not just managing housing – we’re creating it.
So, if you’re passionate about housing and ready to be part of a team that’s making a difference, Waltham Forest is the place for you.
