What is the workplace health check?

Workplace health checks are carried out in pop up clinics, in partnership with Waltham Forest GP Federation, or at a SiSu Health Check Kiosk funded by the Department of Health and Social Care.

These are being carried out as part of a pilot scheme in some workplaces and are similar to the NHS Health Checks offered by GPs.

The health check is designed to help identify your risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), a general term for conditions affecting the heart or blood vessels. It also provides information to lower your risk of having a heart attack or a stroke or developing diabetes in the future.

No information is shared with your employer after the health check.

If you would like to register interest on behalf of a workplace in Waltham Forest, please complete this form. If you have any questions or would like more information, please email Public.Health@walthamforest.gov.uk

The Vital 5 for good health

During the health check, you'll receive a CVD risk score. No matter what your score, there are five main ways you can look after yourself to prevent poor health, reduce your risk of developing health issues, and keep you healthier for longer.

We call these the Vital 5. All of these will contribute to improved health and reduced risk:

Many long-term and often preventable conditions are associated with the Vital 5.

  • Diabetes, heart disease and cancer are linked to obesity.
  • Stroke, heart disease and vascular dementia are linked to high blood pressure.
  • Liver disease, mental health conditions and cancer are linked to high alcohol intake.
  • Heart disease, stroke, lung disease and cancer are linked to smoking.
  • Anxiety and depression are linked to mental wellbeing.

The health check booklet

You will be given a booklet with your measurements and guidance on how to lower your risk of CVD, along with lots of local services that are available to you.
