Walthamstow High Street

Our very own High Street will be hosting a line-up any festival would be proud of - this is not like the Street Parties of old (we don’t have enough tables to stretch a mile for a start!) - this is a Street Party with a difference.

Our beloved urban high street will become our park for the day. So, come and join the fun with your family, friends and neighbours. Make a funky waistcoat you can wear at the open-air disco, complete with giant mirror ball, perform a song in public for the first time, play in a drum circle and learn West African rhythms, enjoy tales from around the world, or simply sit back and enjoy live music as it drifts along the High Street.

Performances and activities will be dispersed along the full length of the High Street and include music stages, showcasing an eclectic line-up of local talent with punk, reggae, singer-songwriters, opera, choirs and world music plus much more.  In the Town Square there will be circus performers and a chance to try out some circus toys for yourselves. There’s a pop-up story lounge with drumming workshops, storytelling, comedy and spoken word performances to share with you.

And of course, there’s plenty of opportunity for everyone of any age to join in and take part! There will be interactive games for all ages including a retro arcade with a difference, a cricket game simulator, board games and a variety of creative crafting workshops for you to try.

The Street Party will go on all afternoon so, to ensure that you won’t be hungry or thirsty, there will be the regular Sunday Social food stalls offering street food from all over the world and plenty of soft drink providers and local breweries too - this is in addition to the existing businesses of High Street cafes, food outlets, pubs and bars, many of whom will be offering events, entertainment or special dishes themselves.

Full programme to follow

This is a free event - all workshop participation is free to all

(NB: Food, drink and face painting will be charged for)

Commissioned by Waltham Forest Council and produced by Artillery in collaboration with Jessica Hudsley Events, programming a fun-filled day to remember.
