Fellowship Square is the jewel in Waltham Forest’s crown and a space open to all communities in our diverse borough. 

The Community in Fellowship Square fund was launched last year to give everyone in Waltham Forest the chance to host cultural events and activities in the square.

Filipino cultural day in Fellowship Square

Sunday 12 June: 2pm to 6pm 

Celebration of Filipino Independence Day with flag raising, music and dance performances, crafts workshops and food. The event will also feature public health information in the form of free diabetes checks, blood pressure checks, information about Covid19 vaccination and KWEL: Keeping Well in NEL (available for local healthcare and NHS support workers offered by North East London CCG). Hosted by Igorot UK.

Once again with feeling

Saturday 2 July: 10am to 6pm.

Three Art workshops for women to make friends and share their stories through writing, collage and photography. Workshops led by artists and will result in a public exhibition of the work produced by participants over the course of the project. Hosted by She Speaks Up.

10:30am to 12pm: Photography workshop with Sharon Young (bring your smart phone or camera)

1pm to 2:30pm: Collage workshop with Adriana Jaros and Sharon Young.

3pm to 4:30pm: Writing workshop with Alice Gale-Feeny and Sharon Young.

5pm to 6pm: Showcase of work produced at the workshops.

Sound splash

Thursday 14 July: 10am to 12pm.

Celebrate and splash to new soundtracks made by disabled early years children and their families.

Join Soundcastle’s Musical Beacons musicians for a fun, inclusive morning of music making at Fellowship Square.  Explore musical instruments, create new music and have fun! Families can drop into the session at any time.  Our experienced music facilitators will support musical play alongside the water and soundtracks made by local children. The Soundcastle team are happy to discuss any access requirements or questions ahead of the event.

 

Afro-Caribbean elders association summer picnic

Thursday 21 July: 11am to 3:30pm 

Meeting and sharing time, food and drinks, music and dominoes. Providing elders with an opportunity to appreciate the new space, flowers, grounds and fountains and to start enjoying their lives again since Covid-19 restrictions were lifted. Hosted by the Afro-Caribbean Elders Association.

Sunday 31 July: 12pm to 1.30pm (People with low income)

Saturday 6 August:  10am to 3pm (Open to all)

Thursday 8 September: 11am to 12.30pm (Over 60s, postponed from 17 July due to hot weather)

Three free Tai Chi introduction sessions (each session will be for a targeted group: disabled people, people with low income and older people). As well as a community get together performance on Saturday 6 August, 10am to 3pm. Hosted by Dao Lu CIC.

Yoga4Health taster sessions

Sunday 17, 24, 31 July: 9:30am to 10.30am and 10:45am to 11:45am

Yoga taster sessions, targeted at Older People, Black Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) and Residents who earn a low income. The Taster Sessions will provide WF residents with an awareness of the forthcoming Yoga4Health 10 week programme that is accredited by the PCI, endorsed and commissioned by the NHS. Yoga4Health programme is suitable for NHS Patients with stress, anxiety or mild to moderate depression, at risk of Type 2 diabetes or cardiovascular disease, suffering from social isolation. Hosted by Yvonne O'Garro, registered Yoga4Health teacher.

Each of the Taster Sessions will be the same, so we kindly ask residents to book their place into only one of the sessions

Tamil Cultural Day

Saturday 13 August: 1pm to 6pm

The event will bring together the local Tamils from across the Borough to collaborate as a community and allow other communities to gain a better understanding of Tamil culture and traditions, through food, clothing, performances, entertainment, and activities to participate in. Hosted by Waltham Forest Tamil Sangam.

Pakistan Independence Day celebration

Sunday 14 August: 10am to 2pm

Pakistan Independence Day event including flag raising, music and dance performances by local children and celebration over food. 

India Independence Day celebration

Monday 15 August: 11am to 12.30pm
Location: Fellowship Square and Council Chambers
This event will include flag raising, music, presentations and celebration over food. We'll be illuminating the Town Hall with India’s orange, white and green colours to mark Independence Day. Organised by Indian Culture Forum.

Waltham Forest community talent show

Sunday 28 August: 6pm to 8:30pm

Multicultural talent show with traditional performances from cultures that live in Waltham Forest. Children and adults performers will act, dance, sing and recite spoken word in traditional costume. Hosted by the Albanian Community Forum.
