If your payment is late
If your Council Tax payment is 7 days late, we’ll send you a reminder.
You then have 7 days from the date of the reminder to bring your account up to date.
If you pay within this time, no further action will be taken.
What happens if you don’t pay after a reminder
If you don’t pay within 7 days of receiving a reminder:
- you will lose your legal right to pay by instalments
- you will be asked to pay the full balance for the year in one payment
- we may send you a court summons, which could include additional costs of up to £120.50
You can only receive 2 reminders in a 12-month period.
If you fall behind a third time, we’ll send you a final notice.
What happens if you receive a final notice
If you get a final notice:
- the full remaining balance will be due immediately
- if you don’t pay, we’ll send you a summons to court
