For advice and guidance on budgeting, many independent organisations can help you to manage your money:  

  • MoneyHelper can assist you in developing a personal spending plan. They also advise on bank accounts and other financial products.
  • National Debtline is a debt charity that offers free impartial advice with instant recommendations based on your circumstances.
  • Citizens Advice Waltham Forest – you can call the advice line on 0808 278 7838. Citizen advice can help with debt problems and support residents who are worried that they may be about to get into debt and want help to prevent it.
  • Stepchange provides the UK’s most comprehensive debt advice service. Step Change helps people with debt problems take back control of their finances and their lives. You can call them on 0800 138 1111
  • Debt Free London provides free expert advice to Londoners with problem debt. Call 0800 808 5700 for help.
  • The Money Charity aims to provide education, information, advice, and guidance to people of all ages. They help people to manage their money well and increase their financial wellbeing.
  • Business Debtline provides expert debt advisers. Advisors are supportive and committed to providing free, impartial, and confidential debt advice. They'll also talk you through the debt advice options that are right for you.

If you're on a low income or get some state benefits and are having difficulty paying your Council Tax, you could get help paying your bill with the Council Tax Support Scheme

Debt Relief Orders and Individual Voluntary Arrangements

If you have a Debt Relief Order (DRO) or an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA), you must tell us the details. 

You’ll need to upload either: 

  • a copy of the notification from the official receiver, showing that the debt relief order has been granted
  • the IVA official agreement letter
