If your Council Tax account is in credit

You can request a Council Tax refund if we’ve told you that your account is in credit.

We’ll tell you if your account is in credit by sending a bill or email. You can also check your Council Tax Connect account.

If you made a payment by Direct Debit in the last 6 months, we’ll refund any credit back to the account details we hold for you.

We no longer refund credits by cheque, so you will be asked to supply your bank details.

Apply for a refund for yourself

Apply for a refund for somebody else

You can also request a refund for somebody else.

You’ll need to provide details of:

  • who you are
  • what relationship you have to the person you’re requesting a refund for
  • an authority to act on their behalf, for example power of attorney if somebody has died
