You may be entitled to a reduction in your Council Tax if your home has certain adaptations for an adult or child with a disability.
This is known as Council Tax Disablement Relief.

Check who can apply for Council Tax Disablement Relief
To be eligible, the property must:
- be the main or only residence of somebody (known as a ‘qualifying person’) who is substantially and permanently disabled
- meet the needs of the qualifying person’s disability
What counts as an eligible property
To be eligible for Council Tax Disablement Relief, the property must include at least one of the following:
- a room (not a bathroom, kitchen, or toilet) that meets the needs of a qualifying person who lives at the property and is used mainly by them. For example, a room containing a dialysis machine or braille equipment
- an extra bathroom or an extra kitchen, which is required to meet the needs of a qualifying person who lives at the property
- enough floor space to use a wheelchair, if one is required to meet the needs of a qualifying person who lives at the property
