Apply for a Council Tax discount or an exemption

You might be entitled to a discount or exemption on your Council Tax bill depending on your circumstances.  

Check if you’re eligible for a discount or exemption

You’ll first need to check if you’re eligible for a Council Tax discount or exemption. 

Some people are not counted (‘disregarded’) for Council Tax and might not have to pay at all. Read more about people who are not counted for Council Tax. 

To apply for a discount or exemption for yourself, you’ll need to: 

1. Login to your Council Tax Connect account
2. Select ‘Show Details’
3. Choose the 'Discounts and Exemptions' option
4. Follow the steps 

You can register for a Council Tax Connect account if you do not already have one. 

You can apply for a discount or exemption for somebody else. 

Select ‘Continue without registering’ to fill in the form.
