Who we are and what we do
The Sustainable Transport team is based within the Neighbourhoods and Environment directorate at Waltham Forest Council. We are responsible for facilitating cycle training sessions in the borough.

Information about you is collected by the cycle training provider (Cycling Instructor Ltd), they are a third party who supply, organise, and deliver cycle training sessions in Waltham Forest.

The Sustainable Transport Team (Waltham Forest Council) only holds anonymised data on participants of cycle training sessions in Waltham Forest, collated and shared by Cycling Instructor Ltd. This includes:
- Age, school year, gender, ethnicity, special educational needs and disability status, and pupil premium status and frequency participant currently cycles.
- Level of cycle training completed and cycling ability.
Why we need your information and how we use it?
We are facilitating the delivery of cycle training sessions in Waltham Forest to encourage residents to cycle confidently and safely in the borough.

The Council only holds anonymised data.
Anonymised data is processed to:
- Analyse the reach of cycle training initiatives and better understand whether participants reflect the borough's residents.
- Understand the outcomes of a cycle training session.
Anonymised data is also processed for:
- Reporting to The Bikeability Trust and Transport for London – requirement of the funder to demonstrate that the funding they are providing is being used beneficially and reflects the demographics of England.
- Future opportunities – data can be used to highlight and measure the success of the cycle training programme and how it can be developed and delivered in the future.
The Lawful basis for the processing
Consent - participants are asked to complete and sign a consent form prior to starting their cycle training session.
Note – participants under 13 parental consent is obtained (parents/carers are required to complete and sign a consent form prior to their child starting their cycle training session).
This is undertaken by the delivery partner of cycle training sessions.

Who your information will be shared with (if applicable)
Anonymised data is shared with The Bikeability Trust and Transport for London – requirement of the funder to demonstrate that funding they are providing is being used beneficially and reflects the demographics of England.
How long we will keep your information
Data is kept for one year in case there are any queries relating to the participants by the cycle training delivery partner and then deleted from the database after one year.
Anonymised data is kept for as long as it is required by the Council, Bikeability Trust and Transport for London, as no personal data is being stored.
