Who we are and what we do

Waltham Forest Council have entered into a contract with the Citizens Advice Waltham Forest (CAWF) for the provision of a welfare benefits information and advice service. All residents of Waltham Forest over the age of 18 will be eligible to receive the service. CAWF will be responsible for demonstrating that Service User outcomes are recorded and monitored from identification (initial contact) to resolution (outcomes achieved). The data will also be used to assess an individual’s eligibility for the service and for signposting on to the appropriate organisation.

Why we need your information and how we use it

We need your personal data so that we can provide you with council services, and to perform our public duties. 

We will only collect personal data that is necessary for the delivery of this service. This information will be used strictly in accordance with the Data Protection legislation and other statutory obligations which we are bound by.

This information is collected and used where we have statutory obligations to collect, use, or share your information, or where you've consented or agreed to receive a service. The information that we receive from CAWF around performance may be shared with colleagues from the NHS to inform potential joint commissioned activity in the future. 

We’ll always tell you about any other purposes or uses when we collect the information.

The data relating to Special Category, will be collected on a voluntary basis and will only be used for the purpose of monitoring the performance of the service and to ensure that the service is being accessed by all.

The data will only be shared internally with the relevant individuals within Waltham Forest Council and NHS. The data will not be shared with any organisation outside of Waltham Forest Council, CAWF and the NHS.

How long we will keep your information

We will hold your data for as long it’s needed for the activity or service that we provide to you and to meet our statutory obligations.

If we want to use it for research, statistics, or archiving purposes, we’ll remove any identifiable details first. We always protect your rights and freedoms, and in line with the NHS National patient data Opt-Out.
