Who we are and what we do

Neighbourhood Directorate tackles the issues we know most matter to residents like Waste Collection, Street Cleansing, anti-social behaviour and fly-tipping. We are charged with improving the public space and clamping down on those who don’t treat the Borough with respect.

Waltham Forest Enforcement Team officers wear and use body-worn cameras. This is for the collection of evidence to aid prosecutions and to improve officer safety.

Why we need your information and how we use it

We use the information you have provided to us in relation to the above services to:

  • deliver services and support to you
  • investigate issues that you have told us about
  • tackle the issues like anti-social behaviour,  and fly-tipping
  • manage services
  • train our workers
  • help investigate any worries or complaints you have about your services
  • check the quality of services
  • help with research and planning of new services

In certain circumstances, where necessary or required by law, we will use the personal data you provide or request your personal data from other departments or other authorities such as; Police, other borough’s etc. for purposes of law enforcement, fraud, public safety and for the prevention or detection of crime, the capture or prosecution of offenders; and the assessment or collection of tax or duty under section 29 of the Data Protection Act.

We also use your information where necessary to carry out enforcement action and issue Fixed Penalty Notices (fines) for issues such as fly-tipping and littering.

The Lawful basis for processing

In accordance with the data protection act 2018, we need a "lawful basis" for collecting and using information about you. There are a variety of different lawful bases for processing personal data which are set out in the data protection act.

The lawful basis on which we rely in order to use the information which we collect about you for the purposes set out in this notice will be:

What type of information is collected from you

If you have contacted us about any of the above services, we will collect your contact details; including name, address, email address, telephone number, so that we can follow up on your contact.

How long we keep your information

We review our retention periods of the information we hold about you on a regular basis. We are legally required to hold some types of information to fulfil our statutory obligations.

We will hold your personal information on our systems for as long as it is necessary for the relevant activity or service that we provide to you, or as required by law.
