War memorials

Museums and heritage


There are numerous war memorials/rolls of honour in churches, schools and offices erected within the borough commemorating those who lost their lives fighting for their country.

There are publicly accessible memorials at:

  • Chingford: On the corner of Kings Head Hill / Ridgeway, and in Memorial Park Chingford Mount Road
  • Walthamstow: The main cenotaph is in front of the Assembly Hall (formerly in front of William Morris Gallery), and there is a Cross of Sacrifice in Queens Road cemetery
  • Leyton: On the back edge of the footpath at the TA Centre Whipps Cross Road (formerly in Church Hill Walthamstow)
  • Leytonstone: Harrow Green cenotaph, Harrow Green
  • Leytonstone: St Patrick's Roman Catholic cemetery

In some cases this may be undertaken by church or other local organisations rather than the local authority. Memorials that have been defaced through graffiti should be reported.

If you don't have access to a computer, you can visit a Library Plus branch where you can use a self-service pc to log your request/report.  Staff are available to support you if you need it.​​​​​​​
