Get ready for a summer breakout with Waltham Forest’s Children and Young People’s Week
At Waltham Forest Council we know just how tough the past year has been for children and young people.
That’s why we’ve put on a range of activities to help them shake off the past year, re-engage with the outside world, get together with their friends and catch up on all the great things they’ve missed.
It’s a five-day long festival of FREE events aimed at restoring and repairing their mental and physical well-being.
Running from June 21 to June 24 the programme of activities – taking place in the classroom and outside - will examine a different aspect of young lives to help repair the damage of the past year.
All events are FREE and Covid-safe.
It will include ways of boosting their MENTAL HEALTH, encouraging physical activity and discussions about how they are feeling.
FAMILY LEARNING, is for parents and carers of pre-school children to learn, talk and understand how the past year has affected them and their young ones. There will also be special activities for children with play sessions at the Children’s Family Centres, Sensory Activities and Healthy Teeth check-ups. There’s also a chance for mums to be and their partners to take part in a virtual get together.
Getting fit and active with SPORT & LEISURE will offer a chance for youngsters to get back playing sports and activities with a schools’ Walk the World Daily Mile. But families can join in the fun too with a range of after school events including Cricket coaching, family Zumba, and Give It A Go.
And finally GET INVOLVED. In school we’ve got a Battle of The Bands, putting the best of our young talent centre stage. Outside school we want our young people to join the Big Youth Conversation 2021. We know the pandemic’s been hard but now is your chance to tell us the ideas, opinions and suggestions to help shape the services that matter to you.
Because of Covid-19 restrictions places are limited and will be with appropriate social distancing.
