We offer a variety of volunteering opportunities to help improve our parks for people and wildlife. Volunteering can help you:

The work volunteers do in our parks is invaluable in raising the standard of parks for everyone to enjoy and wildlife to flourish.

Green Gyms (nature conservation volunteering) enable you to get physically active whilst improving your local environment and community. All sessions are FREE, run weekly, and everyone is welcome regardless of experience, ability or fitness. Each session provides a range of new and interesting outdoor practical conservation tasks to improve strength and stamina, boost practical skills and give you the opportunity to meet others with similar interests. All tools, gloves etc are provided.

We offer the following Green Gyms:

Chingford

  • Days: Every Thursday and the last Saturday of the month.
  • Time: Meet at 9.45am; sessions run from 10am to 1pm.
  • Meeting point: Park Keeper Hut, Ridgeway Park
  • What to wear: Sturdy footwear and outdoor clothing to suit working outdoors and weather on the day.
  • Refreshments: Hot drinks and fruit provided. Feel free to bring a packed lunch.

Lloyd Park

  • Days: Every Friday.
  • Time: Meet at 10.45am; sessions run from 11am to 2pm.
  • Meeting point: Stables building.
  • What to wear: Sturdy footwear and outdoor clothing to suit working outdoors and weather on the day.
  • Refreshments: Hot drinks and fruit provided. Feel free to bring a packed lunch.

Leyton

  • Days: Every Thursday
  • Time: Meet at 9.45am; sessions run from 10am to 1pm.
  • Meeting point: Kukulala Café
  • What to wear: Sturdy footwear and outdoor clothing to suit working outdoors and weather on the day.
  • Refreshments: Hot drinks and fruit provided. Feel free to bring a packed lunch.

If you are under 18 you will need to fill out a parent/guardian consent form and bring it to your first session. This can be emailed to you on request.

Biodiversity Action Team Click to get info

Join the Biodiversity Action Team East to help improve the Borough’s green spaces for wildlife. On these day-long sessions, you could be building a stag beetle loggery, maintaining wildflower meadows, dead hedging or improving wildlife ponds.

  • Days: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays
  • Time: Meet at 9am; returning no later than 5pm (to the meeting point)
  • Meeting point: Abbotts Park Pavilion, E10 6JP (for minibus transport to site); or you can arrange to meet at site.
  • What to wear: Sturdy footwear and outdoor clothing to suit working outdoors and weather on the day.
  • Refreshments: Hot drinks and fruit provided. Feel free to bring a packed lunch.

Join the Lloyd Park Volunteer Gardeners to help keep the William Morris Garden looking beautiful. A friendly and welcoming group who enjoy a variety of tasks, including weeding, pruning, lawn maintenance, propagation and planting. Gardening experience not required.

  • Days: Thursdays
  • Time: 10am-1pm
  • Meeting point: William Morris Garden, behind the William Morris Gallery, which is near to the Forest Road entrance to the park.
  • What to wear: Sturdy footwear and outdoor clothing to suit working outdoors and weather on the day.
  • Refreshments: Drink and snacks provided.

Join your local Friends of Parks group, to enjoy a range of activities, including gardening, nature conservation and community events. Be part of your community and help improve your local green space.
