If your application is successful, the Home Office will inform us. We’ll then contact you to confirm the date and time for your group citizenship ceremony which will be held at the Town Hall. It’s a legal obligation for anyone over the age of 18 to take part in their ceremony.

We will:

  • organise and host the citizenship ceremony
  • present you with your certificate of naturalisation

If the date is inconvenient for you, or if you’d prefer, we can arrange a private citizenship ceremony.

See the GOV.UK guidance on citizenship ceremonies

A private citizenship ceremony costs £100 per person. A Saturday private citizenship ceremony costs £150 per person. There is no charge for children under 18 years of age.

If you live in a different borough, you can have your ceremony in Waltham Forest, with approval from the Home Office.

Request a private citizenship ceremony

A naturalisation certificate proves you’re a British citizen with the right to have a British passport and vote. You will be presented with your certificate at the citizenship ceremony.

Our European passport return service (EPRS) allows you to keep your passport while your application is being processed.

It is only for EEA, Swiss nationals and their family members, who have applied online for a registration certificate or a document certifying permanent residence.

The EPRS is available as a walk-in service at:

The cost is £21 plus packaging.
