Sign up for Le Tour de Waltham Forest

3 March 2017

You can sign up now to reserve your place for Le Tour de Waltham Forest 2017 – the annual cycling event where residents can discover the borough on two wheels.

Le Tour de Waltham Forest takes place on Saturday 24 June at Leyton Jubilee Park (E10 7BL). This year there will be four different routes to take part in, so everyone can get involved regardless of age and cycling ability. The five mile bronze route is suitable for children aged six and above, while the 27 mile ‘Platinum’ race will be ideal for more experienced cyclists who want to challenge themselves on the borough’s roads.

Cllr Clyde Loakes, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment said: “Le Tour de Waltham Forest is a fantastic annual event, and with four different rides to choose from this year there really is something for everyone. This is a great way to get out and explore the borough if you’re new to cycling, and if you’ve taken part before now’s your chance to test yourself on a more challenging route.

“Le Tour is also a great opportunity to do some fundraising for a charity of your choice, and ask friends and family to sponsor you for taking part. If you’re feeling brave you can even take part in fancy dress!”

Registration for all four rides is open now at www.enjoywalthamforest.co.uk/tdwf/ The bronze and silver rides are free to take part in, and the routes are mainly off-road with some segregated cycle tracks. The bronze route will be a family friendly ride through the Lee Valley Canal to Hackney Marshes, and the silver route will follow the Lee Valley to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Registration for the gold and platinum rides cost £10 for adults aged between 18 and 59, and routes are mainly on roads. The 15 mile gold route is new and more challenging, and is perfect for cyclists who took part in the silver route last year and want a bigger challenge this time. The 27 mile platinum route will be ideal for cyclists looking to pick up the pace and challenge themselves even further.

All four rides will start and finish at this year’s Summer Fest event, which takes place at Leyton Jubilee Park. Everyone who takes part will receive an Enjoy Waltham Forest goodie bag, and there will be prizes up for grabs on the day as well as other cycling activities including Dr Bike and Pimp My Wheels.
