The Right to Buy scheme can help you to buy your own home if you are a council or housing association tenant.

The scheme offers a discount of up to £112,800 (£84,600 outside London) off the market value of your home if your application is received on, or after, 6 April 2021.

If your application is received before 6 April 2021, the maximum discount is £112,300 (£84,200 outside London). 

You’ll need to have been a council or housing association tenant for at least three years.

However, we can take into consideration the time you spent as a tenant of another council, or housing association as a secure tenant.

If up to three family members have been living with you for at least 12 months, then they can join your Right to Buy application.

Our chief concern is the health and safety of our residents, and of our staff. We are doing everything we can to minimise the impact on the services you receive from us.

To keep everyone safer, we are limiting face to face meetings with residents.

This information relates to applications to purchase your home under the Right to Buy Scheme.

As you can appreciate, the effects of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) will affect how we inspect and value your property.

We remain committed in providing a service to you so that you can continue to go ahead with your Right to Buy application.

Due to the current situation we will stop physical inspections and will be carrying out desktop valuations until further notice.

To help us carry out our desktop valuation we may ask you to provide some information during the process, this could include:

  • A photograph of the outside of your property both front and back if you live in a house
  • A photograph of the outside of the block if you live in a flat or maisonette
  • A photograph of the bathroom and kitchen
  • An Improvements form detailing any improvements you have made to the property.

Regarding the valuation, we cannot advise on this as the valuation is carried out by our Property Services team following successfully being accepted for the right to buy.
