Report a dangerous structure

Buildings and structures can become dangerous when they show signs of collapsing or materials such as timber, masonry or tiles are about to fall.

Immediate danger

If you think a structure is dangerous, phone us on 020 8496 3000 and:

  • provide the building or structure location
  • describe the danger
  • provide your name, telephone number or email

Defective but no immediate threat

If you think the building or structure is defective, but not dangerous, complete our dangerous structure online form.

The owner will have to pay for any work we carry out to remove the risk.

Once we receive your report, a surveyor will visit the site to assess the danger and any risks.

If the structure is not dangerous, we will contact the owner and ask them to remove the risk in 14 to 28 days.

If the owner doesn’t remove the risk, we can get a court order that requires them to carry out the works.

If the owner doesn’t comply with the order, we’ll carry out the work ourselves.

If you don't have a computer, visit our Library Plus branch to use a computer to log your request or report.  Someone will be there to help you  if you need it.
